About me

I am Maura Westerveld

I was born in the Netherlands in 2005; but at the age of three I moved to Pakistan as my Dad’s work led us there. We lived in Lahore, a beautiful city where many great artists were born. It is in Pakistan that I started drawing at an early age; I had a big imagination and I loved telling stories to my baby brother through pictures and drawings.

After 5 years, we moved to Kenya and I continued drawing, painting, claying, tinkering… and soon enough my parents decided to host my very first Art Exhibition. I was only 10 years old!

One of my big inspiration has been the books by Karina Schaapman in which she displays her miniature houses. I was amazed about what she was able to make out of found materials... and I then also started creating miniature houses with whatever I could find around the house, from cardboard to wood.

At 14 I won an Art Scholarship for my secondary school in Kenya- meaning I was always involved in some kind of art project or competition.

But even outside of school, I am always making or creating something- might it be making a mural in my bedroom or building a copy of Hogwarts castle with my brother.
